The environmental footprint of Lignor’s planned plant is smaller than an equivalent manufacturing plant as it is partially energy self-sufficient with biomass energy use representing about 60% of Lignor's total energy use; a higher proportion than glulam, plywood, LVL and OSB ("Oriented Strand Board").
All log waste products, including bark, is used to generate heat and steam used in the curing process thus creating less requirement for outside energy, which would traditionally have come mainly from fossil fuels.
Wastewater from this process is also recycled to the log conditioning troughs.
